When Ian left the band, Jon & Phil rearranged several established songs and wrote new songs that were unquestionably DENIGH, but written for a three piece band to deliver, so we continued gigging and the sound was heavier.
We took a break mid 1982, returning early 1983 with a line up that included guitarist Martyn 'Arry' Harris. New songs were written with Arry and together we completed the Fire From The Sky album (which was released the following year).
Soundman Paul Smith, did his last gig with us at Folkestone's East Cliff Pavilion in June 1983.
Paul's position was filled by Tim MacKenzie - now handling a 2.5kw PA rig with 16 channel desk.
We appeared again on the 'Kent Rocks' radio show, which led to a collaboration with BBC's Mike Brill to broadcast a live DENIGH performance from The Leas Cliff Hall at Christmas.
Following more time out for DENIGH at the end of 1984, Phil and Jon played a few local gigs with Chris Daughters on drums - and we later enjoyed a truly memorable 1985 support gig with Bernie Torme.
But other commitments and external forces meant that further local appearances were infrequent, and the last few gigs for Phil & Jon as DENIGH were ably accompanied by Nick Milton on drums.
And you'd think that was the end … but there was one last, brief 'outing' for DENIGH in 1994.
Jon persuaded fellow founder member Steve Maddock to do a few gigs as DENIGH, with Pete Yarwood on drums. Pete recalls that we didn't do many gigs, the last was in October the same year at The White Lion, Cheriton.
We have released seven live recordings on YouTube with the heading 'DENIGH LIONHEARTS', and a little more information about this period is on the website page: Lion Hearted
