So, we found a dry but bracing day at the weekend to take a stroll through our home town of Folkestone, and Carl captured the event, of course!
There are well known locations in the video, which follows a walking route from The Leas Cliff Hall via the promenade to the Memorial Arch, across the road to the nearby Rock N Roll Wall Of Fame, ambling onwards to The Bayle, then the Old High Street, and ending at the harbour.
Along the way, we called in at Vintage & Vinyl record store, and Kollectiv Art Cafe in the Old High Street.
The sun struggled at times to break through the cloud, and the wind carried a bite, but the warmth and friendliness of Folkestone shone throughout.
The track accompanying the video is 'This Place Can’t Be Beat' which is a bonus track on our current 'Back In The Game' album - CD release.
As anyone will tell you, we are a rock band first and foremost. However, we love all styles of music, and we like to challenge perceptions about us by showcasing our creativity in different ways.
The song conjures up a sunny holiday vibe, which was its original inspiration, but the lyrics are equally valid for our home town of Folkestone.
Find the time, sit back, relax, put up your feet ..!
Today Carl shared the news of a newly posted YouTube short, by an artist who worked with the creators of the Fallout:London mod to the 'FALLOUT 4' console game.
Ray Dillon's amazing artwork has captured the essence of the games 'Mad Jack' character - and he has used an audio clip from our song 'Mad Jack' to accompany his short.
What a big surprise for us, it fits so well and we take it as a great compliment.
ROXXCALIBUR is a NWoBHM (New Wave of British Heavy Metal) tribute band from Germany who contacted us last year, asking if they could cover / record 'LEAN on 'em Hard' from our back catalogue.
Said to focus on "lost gems" of the NWoBHM era, the band preserves the original arrangements of the songs and records them mostly 'live' in the studio - thereby creating an authentic sound, too.
The bands history and their releases are impressive so we agreed to the request, of course.
Well, this month Carl received a message and mp3 file from Holger Ziegler / ROXXCALIBUR - it was an absolutely stunning rendition of 'Lean on 'em Hard'!
We're very sorry that we can't share it with you right now, but believe us, you'll love it when it's released!
In the meantime, you can check out ROXXCALIBUR on the Internet.
We had always intended making a video to accompany Mad Jack.
During filming, Carl had his own idea of who the Mad Jack character was based upon ...
Ian, Jon and Carl visited the Folkestone Rainbow Centre and presented a cheque in the sum of £340.62 - DENIGH's 1st donation to the charity.
The money was raised through the sale of the re-issued albums Fire From The Sky and (the self-titled) DENIGH, both on CD. Jon and Ian are with Mary Stredwick, chief executive, in this picture.
So, a very big THANK YOU to those of you who have already bought one or both of the CDs - without your purchases, this would not be possible.
And it doesn't stop here. We still have some stock of both CD's for sale, the profits from which will continue to support the incredible work they do for the homeless and for people in need.
A flippin cold day, but DENIGH was pleased to support Joe and Phase 2 of Folkestone's Wall of Fame.
Barry Purkis (aka Thunderstick) and Rob Grain were there to celebrate the addition of SAMSON - and Jon couldn't resist getting in the picture!
We will be presenting a cheque to the Folkestone Rainbow Centre next month. The donation is from the proceeds on the sale of the two ONR label re-issues of our CD albums: the self-titled DENIGH, and Fire From The Sky.
Anyone wanting to buy either of these CDs, which include bonus tracks and come with booklets containing lyrics and band photos, please visit our eBay shop ‘drawnhorse’ or see one of us in person.
This is ongoing, we still have disks for sale and will continue donating until they are all gone.
We are not taking any profit ourselves - all of the proceeds are being donated to this worthy cause.
See the Folkestone Rainbow Centre page on Facebook, there may be other ways you can help the charity to help those in need.
In 1984, DENIGH released a full length cassette tape album, Fire From The Sky.
To honour this, the band have agreed the release of a 40th Anniversary CD Edition, in collaboration with ONR (Obscure NWoBHM Releases).
Worldwide release is due September 2024, with a limited production of only 500 copies, and will include a booklet with info, photos & lyrics.
The line up for this album was as follows:
Phil Allchin - Lead Guitar
Martyn 'Arry' Harris - Guitar
Jon Everett - Lead Vocal & Bass
John Regan - Drums
As with our previous ONR release - DENIGH S/T - the band will have some copies available for sale directly from us, or via our eBay shop.
We welcome your support, as all profit from our sales will be donated to a local Folkestone charity, The Rainbow Centre, that supports families and individuals experiencing hardship.
For decades, Folkestone has been 'The Music Town' of Kent, and it has long been the ambition of 'the dedicated few' to provide permanent and deserved recognition for many of the towns musicians and bands.
That ambition was achieved at 10am on Saturday 10th August 2024 when 'Phase One' of Folkestone's Rock & Roll Wall of Fame was unveiled, featuring 50 bands / 50 bricks.
How pleased do we look?
Our thanks go especially to Joe Ranger,
the 'Main Mover' in creating Folkestone's
Rock & Roll Wall of Fame.
Marvellous!
What a great fella, utterly motivated.
Respect, Joe!
The location of “The Wall” is on The Leas, close to the memorial arch.
It is a “living wall” that will continue to grow, and already, funding has been secured for 'Phase Two' of the project.
DENIGH are proud to have been included in the project start up. Current and former members of the band enjoyed the well attended unveiling ceremony, and we caught up with old friends, too!
So, who have we got here ?
Well, there's Jon & Ian
with Jess Garrett, Phil's daughter
plus
Johnny Regan (Drums)
Nick Milton (Drums)
Chris Daughters (Drums)
Pete Yarwood (Drums)
Plus
Martyn 'Arry' Harris (Guitar)
Hmmn, Maybe Arry should learn to play drums?
